Administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Bishop Hill State Historic Site consists of period buildings and artifacts donated and purchased from the Colony Period. A variety of artifacts including the world-renowned collection of Olof Krans Folk Art are housed at the Bishop Hill Musuem (1988). The museum also contains public restrooms and visitor information services. In addition to these facilities, the State of Illinois maintains the Village Park (c.a. 1850) and its memorials.
Admission is free but donations are appreciated. Access to the park and grounds are available daily from dawn to dusk. Self-guided tours of the Bishop Hill Museum are available from 9:00am-5:00pm Wednesday-Sunday from March 1st-October 31st. Hours are reduced to 9:00am-4:00pm Wednesday-Sunday from November 1st-February 28th. Special events and groups of 25 or more must register in advance.
